Henry At 8 Months

Henry still doesn't have any teeth but our biggest improvement this month is how much table food he is eating! He really does prefer it to babyfood. And he LOVES to feed food to himself. It's hard for me to let him do it because he gets SO messy, but I know it's good for him so I give in and bathe him twice a day if I have to. Emme never wanted to feed herself (she still doesn't), so it's new territory for me.  Chris jokes that I'm using Henry the way they use Blendtec blenders in those "will it blend?" commercials. I put food on his tray and ask "will he eat it?" And the answer 99.9% of the time is yes, ha ha!

Henry loves to eat:
  • bananas
  • apples
  • shredded chicken
  • green beans
  • peas
  • corn
  • yogurt
  • puffs
  • bread
  • waffles
  • lentil soup
  • pinto beans
  • ....the list goes on and on.
Prettymuch whatever we eat for dinner, Henry eats for dinner. It's fantastic!  Love this boy to pieces.

A few notes about Henry:
  • Henry sleeps from about 7:30 PM until about 5:30 AM lately, and then he goes back to sleep until about 7:00 or 7:30 AM. And I think he's transitioning to one nap already! (Emme was over 1 year before she did this.) It's usually a long one (2.5-3 hours) if I can keep Emme quiet that long, but seriously. Only one nap!
  • He's just started using the pincer grasp to pick things up.
  • He can sit, pull himself forward to crawl (without face-planting), and then almost push himself back into a sitting position. He's doing great.
  • Henry is becoming a daddy's boy. If Chris leaves the room he will take off down the hall to find him, army-crawling the whole way. It's very cute! And I think Chris secretly loves it.
  • Henry is still in size 3 diapers.
  • Henry is about 20 pounds, and outgrowing his carseat! We're about to transition to the convertible.
  • Henry needs a haircut! Anyone want to give me boy haircutting advice before I dive in myself and butcher it?

My favorite part of the day is getting Henry out of his crib. He lays is head on my shoulder and we snuggle & rock in the chair. He's such a sweet boy. I want him to stop growing up this instant!

Henry hit the jackpot with his older sister. She is the most loving, protective big sister he could have asked for. She just loves him to pieces and wants to kiss & hold him all day. We love you, Emme!

Canning

Michelle and I tried our hand at canning this year. We did a bunch of pears, pear honey and soup base (onions, peppers and tomatoes). It took all day and we dirtied every dish in the house but it was very fun! We felt super domestic canning our own crop. Hopefully next year we'll get some apples from our trees (last year they froze in a late spring storm) and we can do some applesauce or pie filling as well.

First Day of Gymnastics

Emme missed the deadline for preschool since her birthday isn't until November, so we decided to do a gymnastics class this fall. She is such a social little thing that she just craves playdates with other kids. Every morning when she wakes up she asks me where we are going that day and who we are going to play with.

So gymnastics it was.  We did a trial class last May and loved it, but I decided to wait out all the summer festivities and start her this fall. The first day of gymnastics did not have come soon enough. She talked about it all summer long! Finally when the day came she actually got a little nervous, which is out of character for Emme. Maybe we just talked it up too much? On the way there Emme said to me in the car, "Mom, I a little feared about my gymanstics class. Is Sawyer going to be there?"  (Sawyer is her friend who took gymnastics last fall.) We talked it over and I told her she had nothing to be scared about, that her class was just for fun!

And of course once we got there she forgot all about me watching her through the glass because she was having so much fun. They do a great job at The Little Gym. She is loving her class and looks forward to it every week!

Sugarland Concert

The day before the Sugarland concert at Usana this month, the lady I blog for over at Coupons4Utah called me and told me she had VIP tickets & dinner for the concert but she & her hubby were concerted-out from the summer, and did I want them? Shut. The. Front. Door. Of course I want them! I was so unbelievably pumped.

So off my sister Michelle and I went to the concert. It rained on us like crazy but we still had a great time. (Big thanks to Chris & the amazing Grandma & Grandpa Spencer for watching the kidlets for me so I could go. It was no small feat, seen as how Henry is still nursing & won't take a bottle. Yikes! But they all survived.)

Neither Michelle nor I realized that Jennifer Nettles was pregnant. But she is! Apparently it makes her dance a little less crazy when she's performing pregnant. :) She has an amazing voice. I think Sugarland is quite possibly my most favorite country band right now. It was so fun!

Plus our view from the box suite was awesome. We could sit down the entire time and still have an unobstructed view of the stage. It was amazing!

The sun came out for a moment and we saw a double rainbow! (But what does it mean?)

We got quite soggy, but we still had a great time.

Until next time, Sugarland!
