Emme At 10 Months

All of a sudden my baby is gone and there's a would-be toddler in her place. She climbs up and dives off everything. She thinks she can go down stairs head-first. And she definitely doesn't hold still for pictures anymore. There is no fear in this girl!

  • Emme loves cords. The laptop cord is her favorite cord. She chewed clean through it (while it was unplugged, of course) a few weeks ago.
  • Emme can stand by herself, and balance enough to bend and pick things up, or dance to music while she's standing.
  • Emme's favorite song to dance to is the "Hot Dog Dance" from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
  • Emme has figured out how to twist in her jumper (the one that hangs from the door frame) and then pick her feet up and let gravity un-twist her. She laughs and laughs.
  • Emme tries to push anything that slides or has wheels across the kitchen floor. Once she runs into an obstacle, she grunts and looks at me until I come turn her object the other direction she she can keep pushing.
  • Emme can clap, wave bye bye, do the "indian" on her mouth, and she's starting to blow kisses.
  • She occasionally says "mama" when she's whining now, which is nice because up until this point her favorite word was "dada!"
  • Emme is still the world's most finnicky eater. It's a guessing game at every meal to see what flavor she's in the mood for. I lose sleep over how hard it is to get this girl to eat. She's going to be the death of me, I swear!
  • Emme's figured out how to take all of her shoes off and all of her bows out of her hair. The other day as I walked out of a restaurant, a woman chased me down with one of Emme's shoes that she'd take off and chucked. (Thank you, kind stranger!)
  • Emme wants to drink from a cup but doesn't want to swallow the liquid that makes it into her mouth. The sacrament water ends up all down her dress every week. But we keep trying!
  • Emme is a little bit of a snuggler these days. If you have her blankie, she'll lay her head on your shoulder and snuggle you, but only for about 30 seconds at a time. (Still, I'll take what I can get!)
  • Emme has officially been weaned to soy formula. (More on that later!)

Silver Lake

Last Sunday we drove up to Silver Lake after church to go for a little walk. Emme just loves it up there! The air is a little cooler than in the valley, and there are so many things for her to see. She loved feeding the ducks, who practically attacked her for her cheerios! It was a beautiful day.

Money Money Money

A few weeks ago we made a late-night run to Dairy Queen for brown toppers (and french fries for me, since ice cream is a no-no). And by late, I mean like 9 o'clock...which is super late for Emme. My, how our perspectives change when we become parents!

I was sitting by her in the back seat to keep her awake when I handed her my wallet to play with. The next thing I know, she's waving all my cash in the air and laughing! It was as if she knew it was a contraband toy.

Painting

We've been working on finishing our basement lately. A few weeks ago we had painters here, painting the walls in the basement and the stairwell coming upstairs. Emme was excited that there were other people here, and at the same time also seemed concerned that they were strangers. She kept crawling over to the railing and hollering at them until they turned around and looked at her. Then she'd jabber something to them and look back at me and point, as if to say "mom, there are men in our house!" It was very cute. I think she probably wanted to help! The painters were nice to play along with her looking over their shoulders all evening.

Golfing & Dinner

Last week Chris got together with his MBA buddies and entered the MBA alumni golf tournament. They had a great time golfing all day and catching up, and then later that night the wives joined in for a dinner in the clubhouse. It was fun to visit with everyone again, and we decided we need to do it more often!

Utah State Fair

Last week we went to the State Fair with the Spencer family! Chris was at work, but Emme and I had a good time with her cousins & grandparents. Our favorite attraction was the farm hands exhibit for little kids. (Okay, it was my favorite part.) I'd seen it a million times but never gone in before. It's so cool!

{Grandpa & Emme riding the tractor}

{Ooooh!}

Emme loved looking at all the animals. We spent a lot of time watching the mama pig feed all her babies. She was dead asleep on her side, snoring away while they ate. (Wouldn't that be nice if it worked that way for us!?)

{We wore her out by the end!}

Thanks grandma and grandpa Spencer for such a fun day!

Apple Pie

I had to bring dessert to a BBQ at the Bath's house a few weeks ago, so I decided to make a nursing-friendly dessert for us all to eat. (Kelli can't do chocolate or dairy, either while she nurses.) So I made a homemade pie -- my first ever. And it tasted as good as it looked!

Mmm-Mmmm.

We figured out how to get those itsy bitsy cheerios in our mouth all by ourselves finally. It's been so frustrating!!

Oh, and we also love shredded beef enchiladas. Yum. (Sans the cheese, of course.)

Snuggles

Emme is so social and so busy that she almost never falls asleep on us anymore. But one day I came home from work to find Chris and Emme snuggling on the couch like this.
